The Holistic Home
We are John and Margaret,
A Christian couple with ten adult children who are now on their own faith journeys with the Lord. We, and our children, were/are not perfect. But, despite our imperfections, God has been faithful to his word; we have no greater joy than this: to hear that all our children are walking in the truth. We are often asked, "How did you disciple/raise your children?" This website explains why we did what we did; it will look different as you apply God's word to your own family. This site also includes a lot of 20/20 hindsight out of failure.
God has been so merciful to us!
Join our discussions below...
FOUNDATIONS:
We aim to understand ourselves and the world around us from a Christ-centered perspective rather than placing ourselves as the central authority seeking self-actualization. Remember, anything can be an idol in our lives before God, like ourselves and even the good things that God has made below. While caring for our mind, soul, and spirit, understanding our roles, and stewardship are essential, they are not an end unto themselves. Glorifying God with all of our being is our life purpose. That's why having clear foundational goals affects every aspect of our lives.
BODY:
What is "optimal health"? Here, we will define it from God's perspective and aim for it through nutrition, exercise, and rest, but we will also balance this with an eternal perspective. How do we follow Jesus' example of laying our lives down while also caring for the Temple of God (your body) so Jesus can live through you?
SOUL (MIND):
We will discuss the importance of capturing every thought and avoiding reliance solely on our human understanding, culture, or religious tradition. When should we "not lean to our own understanding" and trust God for the impossible?
SPIRIT (IMAGINATIONS/EMOTIONS):
By embracing the boldness and power of the Holy Spirit, we can become powerful witnesses to God. God created our emotions and imagination to empower our faith to believe and do the impossible, bringing freedom, peace, and joy. God continuously calls us out of our comfort zones to do or be something we can't do in our own strength.
ENVIRONMENT:
Developing a place for hospitality, rest, and growth.
BIBLICAL ROLES:
These affect all our relationships: God, marriage, family, church, community, business, and government. These shape our rights, obligations, responsibilities, beliefs, and even identities.
STEWARDSHIP:
Living simply.
We invite you on a holistic journey as we explore ancient biblical paths to find a renewed sense of wholeness and balance as we renovate our cabin in the Appalachian Mountains. We are starting entirely over, focusing on the topics above with an eternal perspective! (See John's Blog and Margaret's Vlog)
"And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in." Is. 58:12
