Psalms 12:6 (NKJV) The words of the LORD [are] pure words, [Like] silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.
As you put God's Word to work in your life, you are discovering their worth. The silver He has put in the mine for you to extract will be tried and proven many many times over.
As I was typing this during a quiet time of reflection, just before midnight, a minor medical emergency very quickly arose. It was no time to be grabbing for a Sunday School book, a study guide or even a printed copy of the Scriptures. In such times you go with what you got. You find out what you're made of when situations put the squeeze on, and hopefully it's silver from the Refiner's Fire at work in you.
I can tell of many times, terribly painful times, when silver was not what was found when I was tested. It's my perception of the reality of human experience that each one of us is going to fail and sometimes fail hard.
Seven times? Seventy times seven times?
I just have to keep going back to the Silver Mines and digging into what He reveals through His Word.
I started studying Psalms at the beginning of the year and have just reached this verse as I set about blogging every day.
